Umberto Bertelé was born in Verona on September 22nd, 1944, he is Emeritus Professor of Strategy and President of the Digital Innovation Observatories at Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in 1967 and was among the founders of the degree in Management Engineering.

Umberto Bertelé was President of MIP, the Business School of Politecnico di Milano, from 2004 to 2011. He was President of TAV-Treno Alta Velocità for nine years, from 1998 to 2007. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of companies in the industrial sector, in transport, in the banking-financial sector and in ICT, including Borsa Italiana, ATM-Azienda Trasporti Milanesi, Winterthur Assicurazioni and BravoSolution. He was on the Board of Auditors of the Italian Treasury Department and was appointed by the Prefect as prefectural commissioner for Milan during Expo 2015. He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Digital360 since 2015.
