Implementation of practical tools to enhance employee value
Strengthening corporate culture and sense of community
Executive summary
Medtronic, a world leader in medical devices, initiated an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) definition project in the midst of a pandemic to understand and enhance the employee experience. The project, developed with Methodos, involved a thorough analysis of the current and desired situation at the different touchpoints of an employee's experience with the company, ad hoc listening tools (surveys and focus groups), and dedicated workshops. The result enabled the creation of an EVP digital booklet, structured as a "city" with three thematic districts: BUILD, GROW and CONNECT. The initiative led to greater involvement of people, the introduction of concrete tools for growth and well-being, and a strengthening of corporate culture.
Our approach
- BUILD: physical, emotional and financial well-being
- GROW: professional development and learning
- CONNECT: sense of belonging and community
Supportive tools such as the EVP Leadership Toolkit for managers were created to maximize all the services and tools the company offers. In addition, timely disclosures allowed for very specific investment in initiatives and tools of greatest interest to employees such as the Performance Notebook for more objective evaluation, and the My Rewards portal for a complete view of the compensation package. The project also included initiatives such as Ment4All, Growth Stories and "The Value of Us" in order to create for different targets a greater engegement, sense of belonging and engagement.
The results
- Increased employee engagement and satisfaction
- Improved internal communication
- Widespread adoption of EVP by managers to motivate employees
- Introduction of ad hoc initiatives on less manned areas such as Ment4All, Growth Stories and "The Value of Us"
- Strengthening corporate culture and sense of community
It was important to listen, to understand what the experience was and what areas of possible improvement were. The project was greatly appreciated by all.Alessandra Sama
